Women facing immediate risk of domestic violence, please contact 1800 RESPECT (18
The sad fact is that many of the low cost accommodation options that work for young single people or responsible older people, are not available for women with children. It is unlikely that they can get house-sits or volunteer as WWOOFERS, and many low cost options simply will not take in young women, either with or without children, because the owners fear the violent men who are often stalking them.
So if you are a woman with children, about to lose your home, what can you do?
First and foremost, you MUST register for public housing. Depending on your location you may be prioritised for the next house to come available, but this might still take time – even years – as all the housing is full, meaning the vacancy rate is very low.
